I was born in NH and moved to FL in 1981. I graduated from Venice High School in 1989 and joined the U.S. Army in 1990. After serving, I worked as a prison guard in a State Correctional Institution. That is where I was inspired to become a Special Education Teacher. I graduated from USF in 2002 and later received my MA in Reading Education. this is my 8th year of teaching, the last 7 of which have been at VMS. I am an avid sportsman and love to do just abut any outdoor activity. My family and I live in Englewood and support our community and all of the wonderful things it has to offer.
For you folks that have children that "hate" to read. You must tap into your child's interests. They need books that are interesting to them. If they do not like what they are given to read, they will not read it. Allow a variety of choices even it is magazines or comic books. The idea is to ignite the fire. Once the fire is lit, it will grow.
